Abbeymead Primary School

Abbeymead has a new mission statement which will guide future development across the school. We believe that it is our role to teach the necessary skills that will enable our children to succeed in life.

Today, more than ever before, children need a range of abilities to succeed that cover traditional values such as honesty, trust and respect, and also ‘work-place’ skills such organisational, entrepreneurial and team-based competencies.

Realising potential is about ensuring that every child achieves their personal best in terms of English, Maths and the rest of the curriculum. We are proud of the fact that, year-on-year, our children make more progress in the core subjects than the national average.

Learning respect highlights the impact of our innovative new behavioural programme, which teaches our children the value of understanding and respecting others. Teaching the children respect for each other, and then allowing them to highlight such behaviour across the school, contributes greatly to a calm and organised learning environment where everybody’s contribution is valued.

Taking responsibility reflects two important learning activities. Firstly, our children are taught how to become effective and happy members of the community as the result of our ‘Skills for Life’ curriculum programmes. These ensure that effective educational links are made with a very large range of external partners for the benefit of our pupils. Secondly, we provide the children with programmes aimed at encouraging them to be responsible for maintaining self-awareness and emotional resilience as part of our ‘outstanding’ provision for pupil care, guidance and support
