Important Information Regarding Funding Formula Consultation

We wrote to you setting out the impact of the latest announcements from central government and invited Early Years providers to take part in a consultation about the changes to the Early Years Single Funding Formula.

The consultation is now closed and the results are available on the link on this page.

I need to clarify the funding arrangements for 2017/18.  The average rate per hour will be £4.08 but this includes the base rate, deprivation and the new quality supplement.

Question 1 incorrectly quoted the base rate as £4.08 when this is the average rate. Please accept my apologies for the confusion.  The base rate will be £3.90 (increased from £3.50 in the current year) with a deprivation payment of 16p and a quality supplement of 2p.

There will be no changes to the hourly rate for eligible 2 years olds which will remain at £4.91 an hour.

The deprivation supplement will be made for all eligible children and will be 4% of the total funding available which equates to 16p per hour.

The survey results indicates the preference that the quality supplement will retained by Gloucestershire County Council and be used to fund work undertaken by GCC to support the Early Years sector. This will be 0.5% of the total early years funding available and equates to 2p per hour.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Lewis
Lead Commissioner - Early Years
