About the CAMHS Parent Support Team

Parents and carers are the primary influences in helping their children to develop and grow, and it isn’t always an easy job. Our Parent Support Groups offer empathy, kindness, encouragement and a space for parent/carers of children with ADHD or  mild/moderate Anxiety or Special Education Needs or Disability. During our groups parents/carers will meet others in similar situations, be guided through booklets to support various programmes and be given more strategies to help you build on what is already being done  well. Our goal is to help Parents/Carers find ways to look after themselves and their family during a time that can be challenging for all. Our Offer :

  • Parents Plus – ADHD Children’s Programme for Parents/Carers of children in the process off getting a diagnosis if ADHD or recently received one.
  • WEBS – for Parents/Carers of children with SEND ( in special schools or EHCP with 1:1 support in mainstream
  • Supporting your Anxious Child – For Parents/Carers of a child with mild/moderate anxiety

The ADHD and Anxiety Programme are for parents/carers of children in Primary School only. The WEBS group is up to 16yrs.

Parent/Carer Feedback :

What was the most useful part of the course?

  • Being able to share with other parents, hear their suggestions and know that we are working towards the positive goal in a positive way.
  • Always lots of tools to use week in week out, great input and suggestions from facilitators and other parents, feeling you are not alone, making time for myself Is something that is  beneficial to the whole family
  • The support from the other parents and not feeling alone
  • being listened and being part of a group of parents that are going through a similar situation.
  • Learning tools to use at home.
  • I think the most useful part for me was that the course was online as it meant that I didn't have to take time out of work to attend which was good as it meant that they were more willing to support me. I found it good also to meet online as with my own anxiety, meeting a lot of new people in a big room at the start might have been overwhelming.. or I might not even have attended!

At the moment we accept referrals from professional, not self-referrals.
