The birthplace of modern conservation, Slimbridge Wetland Centre is the ideal place to get closer to nature. Slimbridge is home to an astounding array of wildlife including the world's largest collection of swans, geese, and ducks. A year round programme of walks, arts, events, workshops, talks and spectacular wildlife encounters are a fantastic way for everyone to connect to their natural surroundings. Slimbridge is the vision of naturalist and artist Sir Peter Scott and holds international significance as the headquarters of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT). It is here that the world renowned experts of WWT Consulting and Species Conservation are based The grounds are a safe home for the world’s largest collection of swans, ducks, flamingos and geese. Many of the species are rare or endangered. WWT is involved in breeding and conservation programmes to protect these species and the places they live around the world. The Reserve is a wild area of land managed by Slimbridge’s wardens. This huge area encompasses the grasslands to the shores of the Severn estuary and is a haven for wildlife and a great place to see rare birds from all over the world

Description

Wheelchairs and mobility scooters

Plenty of manual wheelchairs are available to loan, please book in advance. We have a fleet of mobility scooters for hire (available 7 days per week) at £10 per day, to include an introductory briefing. A £25 deposit per scooter is also required, refundable on the safe return of the hired scooter.

Please book at least a day in advance by calling 01453 891900, Monday to Friday. Our grounds are accessible to scooters, although we do not advise using them to access Hides.

We're delighted to announce we have opened a Changing Places UK toilet at Slimbridge. The facility is located opposite the Rain Garden, next to the Visitor Centre. It includes a toilet, bench and hoist. The Changing Place is accessible via a Radar key which can be picked up from the Gift Shop or Admissions.

Assistance Dogs

Trained assistance dogs (Assistance Dogs UK), wearing the appropriate branded jacket and lead/harness, and where possible with the accompanying ID card are welcome. Unfortunately dogs in training are not permitted on site, and we would appreciate if visitors are able to call ahead, to let us know they will be visiting with an assistance dog on 01453 891200.

Our priority is nature connection for all our visitors. The site has accessible paths, hides and exhibits, please see our accessibility section for more information. We have wheelchairs and mobility scooters available, please book in advance as we’re unable to take bookings on the day due to them being hired on a first come first served basis.
