Who is a Carer?
A Carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid support to a family member or friend, who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a relative, partner, a child or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Anyone can become a Carer; Carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age. Caring may be sudden and unexpected or could be developed over a period of time. A caring role may last a few months or years but for some it may last for the rest of their lives.

What is a Carers Assessment?
It is a conversation (assessment) and an opportunity for you to talk about you and your caring role. It also focuses on your wellbeing.
- Talking about the routine caring tasks you carry out such as personal care, washing, dressing, feeding etc.
- The impact of your caring role including the impact on your emotional and physical health and wellbeing, finances, family relationships, leisure opportunities and education/training.
- Your family circumstances such as partnership arrangements between parent carers, any additional caring responsibilities you have for wider family, and any contributions from other family members or friends to support with caring tasks.
- Listening to your views and acknowledging the difficulties you face. We aim to support your needs which may involve signposting or referring to relevant agencies.
- You can then discuss a plan of action together with your key worker and they can provide advice, information and support and will offer a review at six and twelve weeks.
What's On, Be Empowered and training sessions
See downloads for our monthly What's On.
The majority of our sessions are held virtually on Zoom, those that are held face to face are marked clearly on the timetable.
They are free to all registered Carers, this includes Carers who are supporting someone out of county. Carers can bring along the person they support to the sessions if they would like to join in to.
There are also Carer Cafes at a variety of locations throughout the County, please feel free to drop in.
