Upton St Leonards C of E Primary School
- Local Offer
Upton St Leonards Church of England (Controlled) Primary School is set in a village environment and serves a wide area.
There are currently 412 children on roll. The school is organised in seven separate year groups with six infant and eight junior classes.
The aim of our school is for every child to realise her/his full potential and to enjoy learning in a caring, friendly, secure and ordered environment. Upton is a nurturing community in which children are encouraged to do their very best, while at the same time developing respect and concern for others.
As a Church of England (Controlled) School, we support and promote Christian beliefs and values not only through our assemblies, but also through everyday life.
We are proud of the education we offer our children and the high standards we maintain. We constantly strive to make our school a happy place where children’s achievements are recognised and rewarded at every level. Our emphasis is on praise and encouragement to increase the children’s self-esteem and confidence.
Upton has an enthusiastic and committed team of teaching and support staff who work hard for the school. Parents and governors are kept abreast of curricular developments through formal and informal contacts.
Our school buildings are modern and well-resourced. In addition to the classrooms and practical areas, we have a spacious well-equipped hall, an ICT Suite and a Library. Outside we have a large playground, two fields, two adventure playgrounds, a separate Foundation Stage play area, a quiet Spiritual Garden with outside worship space, and a Wildlife Area.

We aim to provide an atmosphere in which all children can realise their full potential, and we have high expectations of children with SEN. All children need to experience praise, recognition, affection and success, and all children are entitled to experience the same curriculum and to have equal access to the experiences and activities provided by the school.

Each class has an allocation of Teaching Assistant time which enables staff to plan for additional help for children with SEN. Collectively the school staff have a wide range of training and / or experience in managing needs such as hearing impairment, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, emotional / behavioural difficulties (including Attachment Disorder) etc. This expertise is taken in to account when organising classes and deploying support staff.
Our Special Needs Co-ordinator also provides some support during the week for small groups of children with special needs.
