- Description
PATA @ Winchcombe Early Years is committed to the inclusion of all children and their families. We provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which all children, including those with special educational needs and disability (SEND), are supported to enjoy learning and reach their full potential. We take all reasonable steps to provide a physical environment that promotes inclusion and enables full access to the curriculum for all children. We promote positive images, role models and appropriate language for all and we challenge anyone displaying or using inappropriate or discriminatory attitudes or language. Our staff are suitably trained, implement the setting’s SEND Policy and are kept up to date with current guidance and legislation. We have a designated SEND Co-ordinator (SENDCo) who has attended relevant SENDCo training to enable them to identify and support children with any additional needs as well as to enable them to complete My Plans, My Assessments and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
We identify and respond to children’s special educational needs and/or disability as early as possible using our key person approach. Information about your child’s key person will be shared with you once your child starts at our setting. Your child’s key person will monitor your child’s progress based on the information you provide on registration and our professional observations. If at any stage they feel that your child is not making expected progress in any area of development, a discussion between the key person and the setting’s SENDCo will take place and parents/carers will be informed.
We follow Gloucestershire’s Graduated Pathway of Early Help and Support to identify and respond to children’s emerging needs. We work in partnership with parents/carers, the local authority and other external agencies, to ensure the best outcomes for children with SEND and their families.
We recognise that children with disabilities may not have special educational needs.
We monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of provision, we have a number of Level 3 SEND qualified members of staff across PATA and have a SEND champion within our Board of Trustees.
