Cheltenham Bournside School and Sixth Form Centre

  • Local Offer

As Headteacher, it is my privilege to lead the school and extend a warm welcome to our students, their parents, and our many friends in the local community. We are ‘inspiring lives through learning’ every day – through excellent teaching, compassionate pastoral care, and a programme of extra-curricular activities which is second to none.

Our extensive grounds and specialist facilities are coupled with a highly developed house system which means we offer parents and students the best of both worldsa school large enough to have specialised facilities for all subjects, but with learners part of a small community of just 300 pupils.

Our school crest contains our historic motto: ‘usque ad finem’. It means, ‘until the end’. That’s as true today as when it was first written. It means we’ll be with you every step of the way. It means to go to the utmost extreme in pursuit of excellence: to give your all, to travel as far as can be travelled, to do as much as can be done. That’s what we promise for our learners. And that’s what we expect from each member of our community.

Ofsted confirmed that as a school we “put the welfare of pupils, as well as academic achievement, at the heart of everything we do”, that “pupils enjoy school” and that there is a “strong sense of community for both staff and pupils”.

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary year on this site in 2022. That sense of history, of pride and of community is what makes us special – we’ve been central to the Cheltenham community for generations.

We have received record applications to our Sixth Form for 2024 entry. If you are thinking of joining us, please take a look at the Sixth Form section of our website.

I look forward to meeting you.

Description

We are an inclusive school where all students are valued, respected and treated as equal members regardless of ability, needs, and behaviour. We offer all students access to a broad, balanced, and enriching curriculum, and a full range of educational opportunities.

All teachers are teachers of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) which requires the learning to be adapted to meet individual needs. However, we believe that students with SEND may, at times, require additional support and intervention to achieve their potential. We fully accept our responsibilities in complying with the SEND Code of Practice (DfE, 2015) and ensuring that all students are safe, healthy, and able to enjoy school life fully.

Students with SEND are supported in and out of the classroom according to their individual needs, and benefit from the care and attention offered by our SEND Support Team. The work of the Support Team is instrumental in supporting the needs of our vulnerable students in and out of the school setting.

Our Local Offer

Our Local Offer provides information for parents/carers of children who have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities identified through an Education Health Care plan (EHC) or My Plan, and those who support children with additional educational needs requiring SEND support. This information outlines the support, challenge, and provision we are able to put in place for these students at Bournside.
