Young Gloucestershire (YG) is a countywide charity that supports young people who are facing challenges in their lives.

Giving young people the confidence, motivation and skills to succeed.

We know the world can throw a lot at you as a young person; you may have lots of choices and responsibilities which can leave you feeling confused and overwhelmed. No matter your situation YG provide a lot of opportunities and support to help you achieve your goals.

By choosing to work with YG you’ll find yourself meeting other young people and working with staff including youth workers, trainers and advisers. We think we are a pretty friendly bunch. We want you to enjoy working with us so you can get the most out of all the opportunities you are offered.

Skills

YG will help you build your confidence, be more organised, improve how you communicate with different people, help you work in a team and plan for your future. This includes opportunities for training programs and qualifications such as the Prince's Trust Team, short courses and working with youth workers to help build practical skills like budgeting and time management.

Wellbeing

Offering practical and emotional support that will help you to lead a happy and healthy life. That can be working alongside a youth worker or perhaps a mentor to help you reflect on areas in your life you would like to change or ways you can manage situations better. Or you may feel that you would benefit from working alongside one of our counsellors to explore your issues, feelings, beliefs and behaviours so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence.

Community

Giving you a voice in your community and helping communities to support you. Young Gloucestershire have lots of opportunities for you to get involved in your local community whether that's through environmental projects or by working on our youth board.

Our website is full of information about the different projects you can get involved in. you might start with one or try a few. Get in touch and speak to our staff about what is happening in your life at the moment and they will be able to discuss the various ways we will be able to support you.

Description

All YG's services are open to everyone and can be adapted to support additional needs. In particular we have a Mentoring project that works specifically with:

15-25 year olds with disabilities

The project aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation for disabled young people by supporting them to become embedded in their community and plan for a meaningful future. We will match young people with a volunteer mentor who can help build their confidence and help them explore life outside of formal education.

The project works with young people who are approaching, or have recently passed a point of transition out of formal education, have a physical, sensory or intellectual impairment or have autism/are autistic and would benefit from becoming engaged with people and groups in their local community.
