SEN Transport Team

  • Local Offer

It is important that all children and young people in the county are able to access education at an establishment appropriate to their needs.  Whilst the majority of families do not require any support in achieving this, this service is available for those who may otherwise be disadvantaged.  Where children and young people with special educational needs are eligible for transport support, the service assesses their individual requirements to ensure that any assistance provided enables them to reach their education provider in a safe and appropriate way which facilitates their learning.

Description

The service is mainly open to children of statutory school age (4 years - 16 years) although there is also provision for young people up to 25 years accessing education.  There is some limited support for children accessing specialist early years settings but this is assessed on an individual basis.

The service considers transport support for any child or young person with a learning disability or difficulty - they do not need to have an Education, Health and Care Plan (or Statement of SEN) but additional needs which may impact upon their travel to an education provider.
